Zandvoort places warning signs after navigation trick irritated residents

The municipality of Zandvoort warns road users to turn off their navigation systems on access roads to the seaside resort. Residents of the Parkbuurt have had their streets closed off in navigation apps to prevent visitors from parking there.

In navigation apps such as Google Maps, users can report accidents or road closures themselves. If enough people indicate the same situation, the app takes over.

Dozens of residents of the Parkbuurt reported that their streets were closed off in order to keep people out of their neighborhood. They feel that their parking spaces are too crowded.

The municipality has now placed several warning signs on the access roads to Zandvoort. Road users are asked to turn off their navigation systems and continue to follow the P signs.

A spokesperson for the municipality told press agency ANP that they are in discussions with Google to remove the road closures from the app.
