Arantxa Rus and Eva Vedder were eliminated on Wednesday at the WTA tournament in Hamburg. The Dutch tennis players lost by clear numbers to Spain’s Leyre Romero Gormaz and Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, respectively.
The 34-year-old Rus, ranked 119th in the world, was no match for the eleven-year-younger Gormaz (WTA-133) in the second round. The tennis player from Monster lost in two sets: 2-6 and 2-6.
Rus excelled two years ago on the gravel in Hamburg. The veteran then won the WTA 250 tournament. It was the biggest tournament victory of her career.
The 25-year-old Vedder is also finished in Hamburg. The world number 249 was a size too small for world-class player Alexandrova, the number sixteen in the world, in the first round: 0-6 and 3-6.
