Victim does not remember anything of alleged rape on King's Day in Amsterdam

The woman who reported a rape on King’s Day in Amsterdam still cannot remember anything about it. That is what the public prosecutor said on Wednesday in the Amsterdam court. The suspect is not present at the preliminary hearing.

The incident took place on the Keizersgracht. Images circulating on social media show a man appearing to have sex with a woman between parked cars.

Later, new images appeared showing two women trying to kick the man off the woman. They also ask bystanders to call the police. When the police arrived, the woman was barely responsive.

In her report, the woman said she “never wanted this.” She says that to this day she cannot remember anything about the incident. Only when she saw the images did she realize what had happened to her.

When the woman was later shown a photo of the Italian suspect, she stated that she had never seen him before, according to the prosecutor. “What happened on King’s Day can only be seen as an absolute nightmare,” said the public prosecutor.

Suspect not present in court

The 27-year-old suspect Sirio S. is not present at the preliminary hearing on Wednesday. According to his lawyer, he had drunk too much and cannot remember the incident. However, he is ashamed, “towards his family and the lady in question.”

The man has no fixed address or residence. According to the court, there is a chance that he will disappear from view if he is released. S. will therefore remain in custody for the time being. The case will continue with a substantive hearing on October 9.
