Bruno Martins Indi continues his career at Sparta Rotterdam. The 33-year-old defender signs a contract with the Eredivisionist until mid-2027, with an option for another year.
Martins Indi was a free agent after leaving AZ. The defender played a total of 126 matches for the Alkmaar club. Last season, he was mainly a reserve at AZ, which lost in the cup final to Go Ahead Eagles and finished fifth in the Eredivisie.
Previously, Martins Indi played for Feyenoord, FC Porto, and Stoke City. The veteran has played 36 matches for the Dutch national team so far. Sparta finished twelfth in the Eredivisie last season.
“Due to the departure of Mike Eerdhuijzen to FC Utrecht, we wanted to strengthen ourselves this summer with a left-footed central defender. In Bruno, we have found the right person for that,” technical director Gerard Nijkamp explains on Sparta’s website on Tuesday.
“Bruno has proven himself at the top level for years and, with 188 matches in the Eredivisie, knows better than anyone what is required in this competition. In addition, we see in Bruno someone who can pass on his experience to players who are at the beginning of their careers.”
