Astrid Nijgh, known for Ik doe wat ik doe, will participate in the Night of Nostalgia in September. The 76-year-old singer will perform again for the first time in a long time, after being admitted to intensive care earlier this year.
“It was January 3 when I unexpectedly became extremely short of breath and had to cough a lot,” Nijgh said on Thursday in De Telegraaf. “And before I knew it, I passed out.”
Her partner Louise sees her turning blue and calls the ambulance. Nijgh then wakes up in intensive care. “I was completely paralyzed,” she continues. “I had to completely surrender to that.”
The singer was eventually allowed to leave the hospital after five days. “A neglected flu was the last straw,” she says. “Fortunately, I’m still here.”
During the Night of Nostalgia, older stars will perform their hits from the past. Ria Valk, Ronnie Tober, Ben Cramer, Jacques Herb, and Hans de Booij will also participate in the concert. The Night of Nostalgia will take place on September 20 in Schouwburg Amstelveen.
