SC Cambuur parts ways with Gabi Caschili following his involvement in a brawl at the amateur match between FC Surhústerfean and WKE’16 in June. The Keuken Kampioen Divisie club had previously intended to extend the expiring contract of the right-back.
A mass brawl broke out after the final match between FC Surhústerfean and WKE’16 in Assen on June 15. Caschili was present at the match as a supporter of WKE. According to Cambuur, it is clear from the footage of RTV Drenthe that the defender delivered blows.
Caschili reportedly denied being involved in the brawl, but Cambuur comes to a different conclusion. “I don’t want to say too much about that. That is up to Gabi. In our opinion, the images are clear,” says technical manager Lars Lambooij to the Leeuwarder Courant.
The 21-year-old Caschili already had a new contract proposal from Cambuur in his pocket. “The signatures were not yet under that contract,” says Lambooij, who also took into account a heavy suspension by the KNVB. Caschili has not been present at training sessions and in the practice matches with Drachtster Boys and Feyenoord lately.
Cambuur took over Caschili from PEC Zwolle in the summer of 2023. Partly due to injuries, the defender did not play more than eighteen matches for the club from Leeuwarden.
