Achmea scraps 250 jobs due to a changing pension market

At Achmea, around 250 jobs will disappear in the coming years because the insurance group will reduce work on pensions. The company sees little future in this department with the arrival of the new Pension Act.

Achmea has around twenty pension funds as a customer. The company does the administration, communication and other control work for these funds, among other things. But due to the changing pension law, the market is changing.

“After the introduction of the Pension Act, a limited number of players will remain,” says a spokesperson for Achmea. “If we want to sit there, we have to do a lot of scaling up. We have aimed for that for a long time, but we have to conclude that we are too small.”

Achmea wants to bring the pension funds to the new pension system and then reduce the service. It takes a few years.

As a result, the 250 employees are not immediately on the street. The company probably largely absorbs the disappearance of the jobs through a natural course, but does not exclude forced redundancies.

A hundred employees remain

Achmea pensions services still continue to serve Achmea brands, including Centraal Beheer APF. That is why not all 350 employees have to leave the pension department.

Achmea board member Daphne de Kluis says that it was “not an easy decision”. “Achmea has a long and rich tradition in the field of pension enforcement services,” she says.
