PSV target Ruben van Bommel not with AZ on training camp

Ruben van Bommel did not travel with the AZ squad to the training camp in Epe on Monday. According to various media, the forward’s absence has everything to do with a possible move to PSV.

Unlike Van Bommel, Wouter Goes and Ernest Poku are part of the AZ squad. Like the forward, they participated in the European Championship with Jong Oranje last month, but after a short vacation, they have rejoined coach Maarten Martens’ group.

AZ does not explain why Van Bommel is missing, but according to Voetbal International and AD, among others, he is on his way to returning to PSV. He was already active in the youth team there between 2013 and 2020. Moreover, his father, Mark van Bommel, is an icon in Eindhoven.

PSV’s interest in the twenty-year-old Van Bommel had already been filtering through last week. The reigning national champion sees him as the ideal replacement for Noa Lang. He is officially still under contract in Eindhoven but is reportedly on his way to Napoli.

Sven Mijnans was also previously linked to a move to PSV by various media, but that is not currently the case. The midfielder has therefore simply traveled with AZ to Epe.
