King Willem-Alexander and his family will celebrate King’s Day next year in Dokkum. The royal family will visit Friesland on Monday, April 27.
In 2026, King’s Day will again be on April 27. This year it was on April 26 because April 27 fell on a Sunday. Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and the princesses Amalia, Alexia, and Ariane celebrated King’s Day this year in Doetinchem. A year earlier, the celebration took place in Emmen.
The king has not celebrated his birthday in Friesland before. Queen Beatrix did so during her reign. The last time was in 2008, when she visited the towns of Makkum and Franeker.
It will be the thirteenth time that King’s Day is celebrated. In the 128 years before that, the celebration was called Queen’s Day or Princess’s Day.
