The German female footballers have been assigned a prominent party hotel in Zurich by UEFA as accommodation for the European Championship. The captain and the national coach say they are not bothered by it.
On the top floor of the five-star hotel in the Swiss city is a discotheque. Moreover, the penthouse of the hotel is promoted as the “hottest nightclub” in Zurich. There is also a DJ by the pool, who constantly plays music.
The accommodation of the German female footballers is widely reported in the German tabloid press. Like all other countries, Germany had to indicate a preference for a hotel to UEFA, which determines where the national teams stay.
The hotel in question, called Five, was, according to Bild, not the first choice of the German football team. The Germans’ favorite locations went to other countries. Nevertheless, national coach Christian Wück is satisfied with the hotel.
“Here we have both peace and relaxation,” Wück said at a press conference. “Right next to the hotel is a forest, with beautiful cow pastures, exactly as you imagine Switzerland. But we are also in the city within five minutes. That is important for the players to get some distraction.”
Captain Giulia Gwinn did not know until Wednesday that there was a disco in the hotel. “That actually surprises me,” she said. “But we have our own grounds and we don’t see much of the rest. We can prepare for the matches and training in peace.”
