Players’ contracts at football clubs typically expire on June 30th. As a result, a large number of Eredivisie players are formally without a club from today. NU.nl highlights twelve of them: from Luuk de Jong and Bruno Martins Indi to Kenneth Vermeer and Leandro Bacuna.
Will he stay or will he go? Luuk de Jong himself is still undecided now that his contract with PSV has expired. The striker has not yet reported for the start of preparations, even though trainer Peter Bosz allowed him to continue training. Olivier Boscagli and Rick Karsdorp have definitively left Eindhoven on a free transfer.
Bruno Martins Indi
Former Feyenoord player Bruno Martins Indi has left AZ after five seasons. The central defender has played 126 official matches for the Alkmaar team, but suffered more and more injuries in his last seasons. Martins Indi is transfer-free at the age of 33. It is not yet known whether and where he will continue his career.
Bilal Ould-Chikh
Champion with FC Volendam and assist king of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with no fewer than twenty assists. A good starting point for Bilal Ould-Chikh to capitalize on his free transfer status. “We are in talks with a number of La Liga clubs. A mid-table club and a number of lower clubs,” he said after the last league match. But a month and a half later, the 27-year-old Ould-Chikh has not signed anywhere yet.
Vurnon Anita and Jerson Cabral
FC Volendam has said goodbye to even more experienced players. Thirty-somethings Vurnon Anita (ex-Ajax) and Jerson Cabral (ex-Feyenoord) joined last season on an amateur basis and won the Keuken Kampioen title with FC Volendam. But their stay at De Dijk will not be extended. Brandley Kuwas and Jamie Jacobs are also out of contract, but may well stay.
Younes Namli and Kenneth Vermeer
Younes Namli left PEC Zwolle on a free transfer in mid-2024, did not immediately find a new club and rejoined Zwolle. Now the Danish left-footer is again transfer-free. The same applies to Kenneth Vermeer (39), who was a reserve keeper in Zwolle for the past two years and did not play a minute.
Kelvin Leerdam
We have also heard little from Kelvin Leerdam in recent months. The 35-year-old right-back played only one cup match for Heracles Almelo last season and his expiring contract has not been extended. Where will we see him next season?
Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Ché Nunnely
Two experienced wingers have left sc Heerenveen. Ché Nunnely has 2.5 seasons in the Abe Lenstra Stadium behind him, Alireza Jahanbakhsh came to Friesland in November. Neither have yet reported to a new club.
Kostas Lamprou
The Greek stand-in for Daniel Bielica played only one Eredivisie match for NAC Breda last season. If it is up to NAC, he will sign a new contract. But the transfer-free Lamprou, who is reportedly coveted by Willem II and Helmond Sport, is still thinking about his future.
Leandro Bacuna
Currently, the transfer-free Leandro Bacuna is enjoying his vacation after participating in the Gold Cup with Curaçao. Will the 33-year-old player then return to FC Groningen? That is highly questionable.
