Remko Pasveer will continue for another year at Ajax. The club has extended the 41-year-old goalkeeper’s expiring contract on Tuesday.
It was expected that Pasveer would continue for another year. The Enschede native was the first choice of former coach Francesco Farioli last season and was not thinking about stopping yet.
“With all his experience, Remko is an important link in the selection, both inside and outside the lines. He is an example of someone who really lives for the sport,” explains technical director Alex Kroes regarding the contract extension.
“Last season he played very well as the first keeper and thus proved that he is still up to the task. We are therefore happy to have him with us again this season. He has earned this extra year himself.”
Pasveer is the oldest Ajax player ever. The former goalkeeper of FC Twente, Heracles Almelo, Go Ahead Eagles, PSV and Vitesse settled in Amsterdam in the summer of 2021 and has so far played 93 games for the number two of the past Eredivisie season.
Pasveer has to compete with Jaros
Pasveer will have to compete next season with the Czech Vítezslav Jaros, who is on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season. Jay Gorter is currently the third keeper in the selection of the new coach John Heitinga.
Pasveer is the third veteran to extend his contract with Ajax this year. The 33-year-old Steven Berghuis signed a new two-year contract in February. The one year younger Davy Klaassen followed his example on Monday.
Due to his contract extension, Pasveer simply continues the preparation with Ajax, which started on Sunday with the first training. So far, Heitinga has not yet appointed a first keeper for the new season.
With Pasveer in the team, Ajax will participate in the Champions League next season for the first time since 2022. Although the club missed out on the national title last season after a dramatic denouement, they did finish second. That was enough for participation in the billion-dollar tournament.
