Zépiqueno Redmond has said goodbye to Feyenoord. The free-transfer striker, who won the European title with the Netherlands under 19s last week, is reportedly on his way to Aston Villa.
The nineteen-year-old Redmond had an expiring contract at De Kuip. Several clubs were said to have shown interest in the striker. Aston Villa sees Redmond as a good investment for the future.
“As a little boy, I drove past De Kuip countless times,” Redmond writes on Instagram. “Every time I dreamed of being able to stand on the field myself one day. That dream has come true: playing in the magical De Kuip stadium.”
Redmond made his debut for Feyenoord last November. The striker played in a total of nine games for the Rotterdam team. He played in the Champions League matches against AC Milan and Internazionale, among others.
“The past year has flown by,” Redmond continues. “I am extremely grateful to the staff for the trust and opportunities I have been given to show myself at the highest level. I cherish those moments and experiences and take them with me in my further career. Now a new chapter begins.”
Redmond became European champion with the Netherlands under 19s last Thursday. The Netherlands was too strong for Spain in the final with 1-0. Redmond played in two matches at the European Championship. He did not play in the final.
