US wants again around the table with Canada now that country has withdrawn taxes

The United States will continue trade talks with Canada now that country has withdrawn a tax on digital services. The White House’s economic advisor said this on Monday.

President Donald Trump had ended talks with Canada immediately on Friday. He was responding to the Canadian tax aimed at American services.

Canada wanted to implement a tax retroactively to 2022 on Monday. But on Sunday, that measure was withdrawn at the last minute.

Digital services taxes are intended to generate income from, for example, advertising or sales via online platforms. American tech giants like Google and Meta suffer as a result.

According to U.S. economic advisor Kevin Hassett, the countries can return to the negotiating table now that Canada has reversed course.
