“Mijn twee honden houd ik zoveel mogelijk binnen. Ze liggen op hun koelmat, voor de ventilator. Ik spoel hun buik en poten af met heel lauw water en zorg voor elke dag vers drinkwater (maar dat doe ik altijd). Door hun eten krijgen ze altijd zelf getrokken kippenbouillon. Daar maak ik nu ijsblokjes van. ‘s Nachts mogen ze nu in de slaapkamer liggen, met de airco aan. Ze slapen als een os. Oh nee, hond.”
Gebruiker Donutella verwent de huisdieren met een zomerse snack:
“Je kunt onder andere bij de HEMA van die XL-ijsklontjesvormen halen. Ik vul ze met kleine snacks, komkommer en wat normaal voer. Vervolgens vul ik de vormpjes met water en zet dat een nacht in de vriezer. De volgende dag heb ik speciale “ijsjes” voor honden. Lekker verkoelend en ze hebben wat te doen. Hier echt een succes met de warmte.”

“Mijn twee oude dames, zestienjarige ‘Tuxedo-katten’ zoeken hun eigen koele plekje op in de schaduw. Er staat overal water dat ik regelmatig ververs, en af en toe krijgen ze een ijsje van bevroren liquid snacks. Hopelijk komen ze deze warme dagen zo goed door.”

“Mijn hond ligt nu op de stoel in de schaduw bij de vijver. Er is een hondenzwembadje, maar daar wil ze niet in, hoe warm het ook is. Als ze gaat hijgen, dan pak ik een washandje en maak ik haar buik nat. Ze kan er dan weer een poosje tegen.”
De vissen van TDI worden ook uitstekend verzorgd:
“Ik ben aquariumhouder. Bij mij gaat de luchtpomp in het water en de filteruitlaat dichter naar het oppervlakte. Met deze temperaturen wordt het water warmer en daarbij ontstaat het risico op te weinig zuurstof in het water. Dus ik zorg voor zoveel mogelijk beweging/stroming om veel wisseling te laten gebeuren.”
“Tevens gaat de klep open zodat de overtollige warmte uit de bak kan ontsnappen.”
“Gek genoeg zijn deze temperaturen dus ook een uitdaging voor vissen.”

“Ik geef mijn kat Cara vers water uit een klein glazen bakje dat ik in mijn hand houd (zo’n rond bakje dat ook gebruikt wordt om gebruikte theezakjes in te doen). Op deze manier lijkt het bijna een traktatie. Katten drinken meestal vanzelf genoeg, maar dit heb ik haar jaren geleden aangeleerd en zou kunnen helpen met deze warme dagen.”

“Voor onze konijnen hebben we een stapeltje bakstenen in de koelkast gelegd. Deze plaatsen we straks in hun ren. Daar gaan ze dan lekker tegenaan liggen.”

“Voor de katten hebben we schalen met water staan. Daar doen we speeltjes in die ze eruit proberen te vissen. Zo raken hun pootjes vanzelf in het water en koelen ze af.”

“My dog is now lying on the chair in the shade by the pond. There is a dog pool, but she doesn’t want to go in it, no matter how hot it is. When she starts panting, I grab a washcloth and wet her belly. She can handle it again for a while.”
