Last lap: Piastri goes wide in turn 3, the battle for the win seems to be over.
lap to go: It’s a tough fight between Alonso and Bortoleto, but the Brazilian makes way. Last lap is running!
laps to go: Gap: 1.7 seconds. Norris is approaching Bortoleto.
laps to go: The big fight between Lawson, Alonso and Bortoleto looms up for Norris.
laps to go: Norris is holding on for now, Piastri is not able to get within DRS of his teammate. Gap: 1.9 seconds.
laps to go: McLaren tells Norris that he has some damage to his front wing. ‘That might change the balance a bit.’ Gap is now back to 2.1 seconds.
laps to go: 1.6 seconds.
laps to go: “I need speed, help me,” Norris tells his team. They give him advice on where he is losing time. The gap is now 1.9 seconds.
minutes: Piastri is accelerating hard, while Norris has a whole field of backmarkers in front of him. The gap is now 2.6 seconds.
minutes: Sauber’s advance is further illustrated in this race by an eighth place for Bortoleto, and ninth for Hülkenberg who started last.
laps to go: That action on Piastri just cost Colapinto a 5-second time penalty.
laps to go: The gap is now 3.4 seconds.
laps to go: The gap between Norris and Piastri is now 4.2 seconds.
laps to go: Piastri does come out of this pit stop situation faster, but ends up in a duel between Tsunoda and Colapinto. Colapinto doesn’t see Piastri and pushes the World Cup leader onto the grass. The Argentinian is immediately under investigation.
laps to go: Piastri in for his second stop.
laps to go: Norris in for his last stop. He also gets his second set of mediums.
laps to go: Hamilton is not happy because he didn’t want to stop. But Ferrari tells him this is the fastest way to the finish. “But my tires are still fine.”
laps to go: No one-stopper for Leclerc. It wasn’t the fastest way to the finish anyway, but Lawson and Alonso are trying it for example. Bortoleto is also in, Hamilton follows him.
laps to go: Leclerc is the first of the top three to come in this time. He gets his second set of mediums.
laps to go: A small moment for Hamilton, who goes straight on in turn 3. Also a small moment for Piastri, who goes straight on in turn 1. Both lose some seconds.
laps to go: Russell comes from fifth place on his hard tires behind Isack Hadjar. The Frenchman is ninth.
laps to go: It is Russell again who opens the pit stop series.
laps to go: There are a few duels. Lawson and Alonso especially, who are fighting their race-long duel of the one-stoppers.
laps to go: We don’t want to make it more exciting than it is, of course, but Piastri is getting a bit closer to Norris. It is now 3.2 seconds.
laps to go: Tsunoda gets a 10-second time penalty for his collision with Colapinto.
laps to go: Piastri is gaining a bit on Norris, but the gap is still 5.6 seconds. Behind them, Leclerc is now facing a gap of 13 seconds. As far as Ferrari still had ambitions forward, that is now clear. Alonso makes his only stop of the race in the meantime.
laps to go: That was a reckless action by Tsunoda, who can continue with a new front wing. But it will not be a great day for Red Bull Racing on its own circuit, that is clear. Although Liam Lawson’s performance in the Racing Bulls sister car is impressive.
laps to go: Yellow flag for a collision between Tsunoda and Colapinto! The Argentinian goes around, but can continue. Tsunoda seeks the pits.
laps to go: Alonso and Lawson have both not stopped yet. They are clearly going for a one-stopper. They are now, after Hamilton has also overtaken them, fifth and sixth.
laps to go: McLaren lets Piastri know that his action in turn 4 with Norris was ‘too marginal’. It was also on the edge.
laps to go: Leclerc works his way past Alonso, and will now do that with Lawson as well. Not ideal for the Monegasque that he ended up behind these two.
laps to go: And there is also Hamilton, undoubtedly also for his hard set of tires. Norris is back in the lead, Piastri is 6.5 seconds behind in second place.
laps to go: A faster stop at Ferrari, which gives Leclerc a set of hard tires. His only set. He ends up behind the duel Lawson-Alonso for fifth place.
laps to go: That’s now, Leclerc comes in.
laps to go: Also not a smooth stop at Piastri, who comes out on track almost 6 seconds behind Norris. Now it is waiting until when the Ferraris will make their stop.
laps to go: There is Piastri with his first stop. He is also going to hard.
laps to go: Piastri drives on. “Let’s see what you can do in free air,” says McLaren.
laps to go: The strong driving Gabriel Bortoleto comes in with his Sauber from seventh place.
laps to go: Piastri drives on, despite a flat spot on his tires.
laps to go: That was not a great stop from Norris, who gets a new set of hard tires.
laps to go: Norris comes in!
Noh 50 laps to go: Oooh that was close. Piastri makes a late dive on the inside at Norris in turn 4 and almost touches his teammate!
laps to go: George Russell is the first of the lead to make a stop. He goes to his second set of mediums.
laps to go: Meanwhile, the disaster day for Williams is complete. Alexander Albon drops out from a good position in the points. Yuki Tsunoda is meanwhile driving his front wing against the car of Lance Stroll.
laps to go: While Leclerc is told that he has to save fuel, he is now driving just as fast as the struggling McLaren drivers.
laps to go: Piastri is tightening the thumbscrews again at Norris, who barely holds his own in turn 3 and turn 4.
laps to go: Norris takes a bit of control back, although Piastri is ‘just’ still within DRS of the leader. The McLaren drivers are also driving this duel at a higher pace than they might want. Leclerc already has a backlog of almost 5 seconds.
laps to go: It just keeps going between Piastri and Norris. The Australian is even past for a moment, but Norris fights back thanks to DRS.
laps to go: What a duel between the McLaren drivers! Piastri is on the rear wing of Norris, who still manages to hold his own.
laps to go: Leclerc can’t keep up with the pace of the McLarens and has to look more behind him. Teammate Hamilton was faster last lap.
laps to go: There was even an attack from Piastri towards turn 4. The McLarens are breaking away from the field, but Norris is certainly not rid of his teammate.
laps to go: A small DRS train is immediately created, behind leader Norris. That makes it difficult to overtake. Verstappen is meanwhile back in the paddock. Antonelli too.
laps to go: We are back underway on the Red Bull Ring, without the reigning world champion. Norris leads.
At the start, Leclerc attacked Norris in turn 1, but that cost him his position to Piastri. The Australian came out of turn 1 quickly and could even attack Norris towards turn 3. Behind them, Antonelli braked heavily, ramming Verstappen.
Oh a braking error by the inexperienced Antonelli necks Verstappen early in the Austrian Grand Prix. The Italian blocked his front wheels in turn 3 and rammed Verstappen on the rear wheel. The Dutchman waves to the crowd and can go home after his media work.
Oh Verstappen is hit in turn 3 by Antonelli!
