Players’ union VVCS reacted with surprise on Saturday to the so-called “banishment” of seven players at Ajax. Earlier in the day, De Telegraaf reported that this group of seven is no longer welcome in the first team.
According to De Telegraaf, these are Christian Rasmussen, Jay Gorter, Branco van den Boomen, and Chuba Akpom, Carlos Forbs, Borna Sosa, and Kristian Hlynsson, who returned from a loan spell. As it stands now, they have no future at Ajax.
Technical director Alex Kroes reportedly informed them via WhatsApp that they would no longer be involved with the first team. According to reports, it goes so far that the seven are not allowed to use the parking spaces for selection players.
They are only welcome on the training field and in the gym after the first team’s daily program has ended. The A-selection begins preparing for the new season on Monday.
The VVCS has taken note of this news “with astonishment,” the union said in a statement via social media. “These players are being emphatically isolated from their colleagues in the first selection.”
“Victims of Ajax’s Failing Policy”
“The VVCS considers this a form of improper employer conduct and an unnecessary public damage to players who bear no responsibility for the situation that has arisen.”
Four of the seven players came to Ajax when Sven Mislintat was still technical director. “In fact, they are victims of Ajax’s failing policy, which gave Mislintat free rein at the time,” the VVCS states. Only Rasmussen, Gorter, and Hlynsson were under contract with Ajax before 2023.
Gorter and Hlynsson are entering their final contract year with Ajax, Van den Boomen and Rasmussen have two years left on their contracts. The contracts of Akpom, Forbs and Sosa run until 2028.
