Pogba breathes new life into career after doping suspension at AS Monaco

Paul Pogba has found a new club again, a year and a half after his doping suspension. After leaving Juventus, the French midfielder will join AS Monaco.

The career of the 32-year-old Pogba seemed over in August 2023, when he tested positive for the banned muscle-enhancing substance testosterone. The 91-time international was initially suspended for four years, but the CAS sports tribunal reduced this to an eighteen-month suspension.

Pogba, who stated that he had taken the substance accidentally, has officially been allowed to participate in matches again since March, but this did not happen at Juventus. That club terminated his contract, allowing him to look for a new adventure this summer on a free transfer.

Pogba has been linked with numerous competitions, but with AS Monaco he chooses Ligue 1. He has not previously played at the highest level in France. Pogba made a name for himself at Juventus and Manchester United and was the most expensive footballer in the world for a year with a transfer fee of 105 million euros. In 2017, that record was broken by Neymar’s transfer for 222 million euros from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain.

A year later, Pogba became world champion with France in Russia. He was one of the most important forces in the team of national coach Didier Deschamps and scored in the 4-2 won final against Croatia.
