A dress worn by Princess Diana has fetched a whopping $520,000 (nearly €444,000) at an auction, according to Julien’s Auctions. The proceeds were well above expectations: it was estimated beforehand that the dress would fetch a maximum of $300,000.
Diana wore the dress with colored flowers several times in the eighties and nineties, including at a polo match in Windsor in 1988 and during a visit to a children’s home in Brazil in 1991.
Other items of clothing belonging to the princess, who died in 1997, also fetched substantial amounts. A Catherine Walker evening gown sold for approximately €387,000, a handbag changed hands for €276,000 and a red ski suit fetched €276,000.
