FNV will face former chairman Ton Heerts as a temporary member of the supervisory board, the Enterprise Chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruled on Friday. The trade union has been in crisis for months.
Recently, former minister Lodewijk Asscher, among others, joined the supervisory board as chairman, which must organize elections for a new FNV board. Furthermore, the supervisors will advise on how FNV can best be managed.
“From experience, I know that FNV plays a crucial role in social consultation. That is why the trade union movement deserves a good position in society,” says Heerts. The mayor of Apeldoorn has held several positions at the trade union in the past. He became chairman in 2013.
Under Heerts, FNV underwent a significant transformation. For example, all unions merged into a central organization in 2015, and the trade union got a members’ parliament. That led to internal tensions several times.
The unrest at FNV has increased after an alleged false integrity report about then-vice chairman Zakaria Boufangacha. He denies this and is currently at home.
The board of the union had resigned in March. An interim board is now at work. The elections for a new board and a new chairman have already been postponed twice.
