Vivianne Miedema travels to the European Championship in Switzerland with a good feeling. The Orange striker scored twice on Thursday in the 2-1 farewell match won against Finland.
“I’m standing here with a pretty good feeling. I’ve worked very hard to be here,” the 28-year-old Miedema told ESPN.
Miedema opened the scoring in the eleventh minute in Leeuwarden and was again accurate after half an hour. These were her 98th and 99th goals for Orange.
“It’s nice that I’m taking my goals with me,” Miedema continued. “They certainly weren’t the prettiest, but they do count. I had promised my mother (who wasn’t in Leeuwarden, ed.) that I wouldn’t reach the hundred today and I kept to that.”
It was Miedema’s first match since April 8. After that, the Manchester City player was out of circulation due to a hamstring injury.
“I haven’t played for three months and in the end this match was nice to build on. Hopefully I can start the European Championship fit.”
