A large fire broke out at an animal feed factory in Veenendaal on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. The fire is now almost extinguished.
The fire broke out around 2:36 AM on the Antennestraat. The fire department allowed the fire to burn out under control and is working on extinguishing it. This will take all day, according to a spokesperson for the Utrecht Safety Region to NU.nl. The building must be considered lost.
The fire spread to an adjacent building belonging to the same company. Surrounding buildings of other companies have been spared. However, the entire industrial area has been cordoned off, preventing other companies from starting up yet.
The safety region had sent a second NL-Alert on Thursday morning because the smoke was constantly blowing in a different direction. Residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed and turn off the ventilation.
