Ajax has said goodbye to Jakov Medic on Wednesday. The Croatian defender has been sold to Norwich City after a disappointing period in Amsterdam.
Medic was one of the players brought to Ajax by director Sven Mislintat in the summer of 2023. The defender scored a world-class goal in his first match against Heracles Almelo, but after that, he failed to impress at Ajax.
Last season, the 26-year-old Medic was loaned to VfL Bochum, for whom he played 23 Bundesliga matches. Medic reportedly yields Ajax around 2 million euros. He cost the Amsterdam club approximately 3 million euros in the summer of 2023.
“There was no perspective for Jakov at Ajax, which made it better for both parties to look further,” says technical director Alex Kroes on the Ajax website. “A great challenge in the Championship awaits him at Norwich City. We have wished him much success.”
Kroes has been working at Ajax for some time to dismiss a number of Mislintat’s acquisitions. Of the German’s twelve acquisitions, only Josip Sutalo managed to become a regular starter at Ajax, although Anton Gaaei was often of great value last season.
