FC Barcelona will return to Camp Nou on August 10 after more than two years. The top club will then play the annual friendly match for the Joan Gamper Trophy in the renovated stadium.
Barcelona played their last match in Camp Nou in May 2023, which has been the home of the Spanish champion since 1957. Although the renovation is not yet fully completed, the club will return to the stadium in two months.
The capacity of Camp Nou will be increased from almost 100,000 to 110,000 seats. Work is currently underway on the third ring, the VIP seats and the roof.
“The return to Camp Nou is a historic moment for the club and its supporters,” FC Barcelona wrote on the site on Wednesday. “The club is taking a symbolic and emotional step towards the future.”
It is not yet known which club FC Barcelona will meet on August 10. There is a good chance that it will be Como, managed by former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas. The Spanish coach was promoted to Serie A with Como last season.
FC Barcelona has played in the Olympic stadium on Montjuïc for the past two years. Frenkie de Jong’s team won the national title, the Spanish cup and the Spanish super cup last season. The club was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Champions League by Internazionale.
