Employees of the Jumbo distribution center in Veghel found a gecko this weekend. The lizard was among a shipment of fruit.
The employees put the gecko in a plastic fruit container. They called the animal ambulance, who came to pick up the reptile. The animal ambulance speaks of a “strange find” on Facebook.
The gecko has been taken to De Oliemeulen zoo in Tilburg. There he is being cared for.
It is not known where the shipment of fruit came from, or how the gecko ended up in the shipment.
Geckos occur all over the world, but can only survive in warm areas. The temperate climate of the Netherlands is not suitable for the lizards, which means they do not normally occur here.
