Een 54-jarige man uit Emmen is vrijdag aangehouden na het uitvoeren van ‘burgergrenscontroles’ bij de grens tussen Ter Apel en het Duitse Rütenbrock. De politie heeft de verdachte aangehouden op verdenking van poging tot ambtsdwang.
Het gaat mogelijk om Jan Huzen uit Nieuw-Weerdinge. Dat is de initiatiefnemer van de burgercontroles en de oprichter van een grote appgroep waarin werd opgeroepen tot deze acties. Op zijn Facebookpagina schrijft Huzen vrijdag dat de politie naar hem onderweg is voor zijn arrestatie.
De politie stelt dat het OM, de burgemeester en de politie ‘volstrekt helder’ zijn geweest over de eigenhandige controles. “Grenscontroles zijn een exclusieve taak van de Koninklijke Marechaussee. Burgers mogen deze rol niet naar zich toetrekken”, schrijft de politie.
De man wordt verdacht van zogeheten ambtsdwang, omdat hij met de controles de overheid probeerde te bewegen grenscontroles uit te voeren. Dat is volgens de autoriteiten eigenrichting, wat verboden is. De man was eerder al gewaarschuwd.
De laatste weken gingen meerdere burgers richting de Duitse grens bij Ter Apel om eigen ‘grenscontroles’ uit te voeren. De mensen controleerde hierbij auto’s. De groep burgers zou boos zijn over de in hun ogen gebrekkige Nederlandse grenscontroles.
Demissionair justitie- en migratieminister David van Weel riep burgers toen al op om niet zelf grenscontroles uit te voeren. “Ik begrijp de frustratie, maar ik roep deze groep echt op om dit niet te doen en te stoppen. Laat de politie en marechaussee hun werk doen en hou je aan de wet.”

In recent weeks, several citizens have gone to the German border near Ter Apel to carry out their own ‘border controls’. The people checked cars here. The group of citizens is said to be angry about the inadequate Dutch border controls in their eyes.
Outgoing Justice and Migration Minister David van Weel had already called on citizens not to carry out border controls themselves. “I understand the frustration, but I really call on this group not to do this and to stop. Let the police and the Marechaussee do their job and abide by the law.”
