Chris Brown denies before the judge that he has mistreated producer with tequila bottle

Chris Brown appeared in court in London on Friday and pleaded not guilty to assault. The American artist is accused of hitting a music producer with a tequila bottle, causing serious injury.

Brown was arrested in Manchester last month on suspicion of assault. He allegedly hit music producer Abraham Diaw on the head with a bottle in 2023.

On Friday, it emerged that Brown is also accused of assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of a weapon, with the tequila bottle being considered a weapon. Both cases relate to the incident in the nightclub and were added to the indictment before Friday’s hearing.

The judge has adjourned the hearing for these two charges, meaning Brown will not have to enter a plea until July 11. He will then stand trial on October 26, 2026.

The singer was released on bail a few days after his arrest. The judge imposed conditions on his release: he is only allowed to travel for his Breezy Bowl XX tour, must share his place of residence with the authorities, may not have contact with the alleged victim and may not visit the London club where the incident is said to have taken place.

The 36-year-old artist’s tour kicked off in Amsterdam on June 8. During a performance earlier this month in Manchester, Brown addressed the audience: “Thank you for coming and supporting me. And thank you to the prison,” he added with a wink, referring to his brief pre-trial detention. “It was really fun.”
