Red Cross warns of very high feeling temperature: 'Use your mind'

The Red Cross is making “an appeal to the common sense” of everyone going out this weekend. It is tropical hot in almost the entire country. On Sunday, the temperature can even rise to 35 degrees Celsius. The feels like temperature is even higher locally.

On Saturday afternoon, it will be more than 30 degrees Celsius in almost the entire country. It will also remain warm for a long time in the evening, and a tropical night is not excluded. That is a night in which the temperature does not fall below 20 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperatures of the weekend are expected on Sunday afternoon. In the east and southeast, it can be around 35 degrees Celsius. But due to high humidity, the feels like temperature is much higher, writes Weerplaza. In the west of the country, the temperature will probably be slightly lower due to a turning wind.

Several festivals will take place this weekend, including Pinkpop in Landgraaf, Limburg, and Op de Ring in Amsterdam. The Red Cross warns of the risks of alcohol and drugs in combination with the heat. Furthermore, the organization recommends listening carefully to your body.

Further advice is to drink plenty of water, wear suitable clothing, and apply sunscreen. The UV index will reach level 7 this weekend. This means that unprotected skin can burn within ten to twenty minutes.

People who plan to go running should ask themselves whether they are trained well enough for it, according to the Red Cross. “Because running in the full sun can quickly become dangerous.”
