Champions League winner PSG Surprisingly Botafogo at World Cup

Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain surprisingly lost to Botafogo at the Club World Cup on Thursday. The French top club was defeated 0-1 in Pasadena against the latest winner of the Copa Libertadores, the South American Champions League.

Igor Jesus scored the only goal of the match in the first half at the Rose Bowl. A shot by the four-time Brazilian international ended up behind goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma via PSG defender Willian Pacho.

PSG played with some well-known names such as Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué, but could not accomplish much against Botafogo. The superpower produced sixteen chances, but only two attempts were on target.

PSG convincingly won the first World Cup match against Atlético Madrid (4-0). A month ago, trainer Luis Enrique’s team won the Champions League for the first time. The club from Paris left little of Internazionale in the final (5-0).

Botafogo leads Group B with six points. The reigning champion of Brazil was previously too strong for Seattle Sounders (2-1). Botafogo will play the last group match against Atlético Madrid, which won 1-3 against Seattle Sounders on Thursday.

Both Atlético and PSG have three points after two matches. If clubs have the same number of points after three matches, the head-to-head result will be decisive. The first two clubs in the group advance to the knockout phase.
