The Dutch activist Mark van Rennes, the captain of the activist ship who wanted to sail to the Gaza Strip, will be deported on Monday Israel. An earlier expulsion on Friday was canceled at the end.
From Rennes and two French activists will be taken to the border with Jordan on Monday. There they are met by employees of the embassies of their home country. This is reported by the Arab-Israeli human rights organization Adalah, which represents the activists.
The three activists are from Rennes, Pascal Mauriras and Yanis Mhamdi. They would already be deported last Friday via Tel Aviv airport. But they were brought back to the Givon prison in Ramla the same morning. Because of Israel’s attack on Iran, their expulsion was canceled at the last minute.
Van Rennes is captain of the Madleen. That ship was on the way to Gaza with relief supplies, but was intercepted by Israel a week ago. All twelve people on board were arrested and secured.
Among the people on board were the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and the French MEP Rima Hassan. Thunberg and three others were sent back to their home country last Monday.
Draw attention to food crisis
The ship left Italy on 1 June. The crew members wanted to provide both help and ask for attention for the situation in Gaza, in particular for the large food crisis. Israel blocked the supply of relief supplies to Gaza for months.
Recently, the American Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is distributing limited food. GHF is controversial and receives strong criticism from humanitarian organizations and experts.
