Trade unions threaten with a new track strike on Tuesday, but first in conversation with NS

Unions FNV and VVMC are threatening a new rail strike on Tuesday, with NS personnel in the northwest and east of the country, including around Amsterdam and Schiphol, ceasing work. First, the unions want to talk with NS on Monday morning.

The unions have already sent the notification letter for the strike to NS. “We feel compelled to take action again. The unions will meet with NS on Monday morning. Whether this will affect the planned actions on Tuesday depends on the outcome,” says VVMC chairman Wim Eilert.

On Friday, it was announced that a previously announced strike by NS personnel on Monday would not go ahead. As a result, trains are running largely according to the normal timetable. Travelers are asked to consult the journey planner for their journey.

Recently, train employees have been striking on various days to reinforce their demands for a better collective labor agreement. For example, trains ran only limited services on Friday. There was even no train traffic on Tuesday, just like on Friday, June 6.

NS has since made an improved collective labor agreement offer, in which the proposed wage increase has been increased from 2.55 to 3.25 percent for this year and 2.75 percent per March 1, 2025. But unions are not happy with it. “This really gives no hope for a good outcome. We are of course willing to enter into discussions with NS. But to get out of it, NS really has to come up with more than they are offering now,” FNV said earlier.

Furthermore, the unions indicate that they are not only looking at the salary, but also want improvement of working conditions.
