Suzan Lamens failed to reach the semi-finals of the Libéma Open on Friday. The best Dutch tennis player had to acknowledge her superior in the Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in three sets: 6-2 and 7-6 (4).
Lamens had a difficult start on the grass of Rosmalen. The 25-year-old from Berkel immediately gave up her own service game, after which she trailed behind. Cocciaretto also cashed in on her second breakpoint and won the first set without much effort.
In the second set, Lamens recovered and quickly took a 3-0 lead, but she also relinquished that margin. She lost her own service game twice and missed two set points with a 6-5 lead. Cocciaretto was the better player in the tiebreak.
Cocciaretto will face Romanian Elena Gabriela Ruse or former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu from Canada in the semi-finals. Ruse and Andreescu will play each other later in the day.
