More than 800 kilometers of traffic jams due to train strike and several accidents

There were already more than 800 kilometers of traffic jams in the Netherlands around 4:00 PM on Friday. This is mainly due to the NS strike, many collisions on the road, and recreational traffic.

Although the evening rush hour on Friday always starts a bit earlier, it is very busy on the Dutch roads, says an ANWB spokesperson to NU.nl. “It’s a combination of commuting and recreational traffic. And there are many collisions.”

For example, there is almost 15 kilometers of traffic jam on the A2 due to an accident between Vinkeveen and the Leidsche Rijntunnel, which causes about an hour and a half of delay.

A car is on fire along the A5. One person was injured and taken to the hospital after treatment by ambulance personnel. The highway is therefore closed between Amsterdam-Westpoort and the Raasdorp junction. The delay is up to half an hour.

No trains are running in the north and south of the country due to the strike by NS employees. According to the ANWB spokesperson, this causes many people to take the car.

Possible thunderstorms do not play a role in the traffic jam, he says. According to the forecasts, they will start later in the evening, so people will not suffer from them during rush hour.
