First official tropical day of the year: more than 30 degrees in De Bilt

There were already local tropical days on Thursday. For example, it was 30.7 degrees in Westdorpe and 30 degrees in Maastricht.

On average, the first tropical day in De Bilt falls on June 30, but thirty years ago the first official tropical day was on average on July 4. Due to global warming, not only is the chance of tropical heat increasing, but it is also coming a little earlier, writes Weeronline.

Last year, the temperature in De Bilt rose to 30 degrees for the first time on June 26. In 2023 it was on June 11 and in 2022 only on July 18.

On average, De Bilt has up to five tropical days in a year. Last year four tropical days were recorded, in 2023 five and in 2022 nine. The year with the most tropical days in De Bilt was 1976. The temperature rose to 30 degrees or more on fourteen days.

Saturday warm again, especially in the east

It will be warm again in many places on Saturday with temperatures between 28 and 32 degrees. The highest temperatures are expected in the east. It will be 25 to 27 degrees on the coast and around 23 degrees in the west of Zeeland.

There will be quite a bit of sun again on Saturday, but cumulonimbus clouds will also regularly pass over the country. In the second half of the afternoon this will lead to rain and thunderstorms in the country.
