George Russell was surprised that Max Verstappen returned to the collision between the two drivers a day after the Grand Prix of Spain. In it, Verstappen expressed regret and said that the incident should never have taken place.
Two weeks ago, Verstappen received three penalty points on his license when he came into contact with Russell in the final phase of the GP of Spain. Russell would not find a suspension wrong if Verstappen runs into his twelfth penalty. “That’s what those penalty points are ultimately for that. If you keep driving reckless, you get penalty points and ultimately a suspension. That is entirely in your own hands and it is not without risk.”
Russell, who finished the race as fourth, does not think that Verstappen wanted him to crash. “He tried to push me off the track, but I don’t think he wanted to touch me consciously. He wanted to intimidate me, but he made an estimation error.”
Russell and Verstappen met at the airport
Russell and Verstappen happened to meet each other on Sunday at Monte Carlo airport. “To be honest, I had already forgotten Barcelona, because he was there with his newborn baby,” said Russell, who was on his way to the Roland Garros final. “We talked briefly while he was busy folding the pram in security.”
