The entire country can prepare for a sun-drenched Friday with high temperatures. However, the south of the country will experience a wet ending. In Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland, and Zeeland, code yellow is in effect tonight due to severe thunderstorms.
In those provinces, the warning is in effect from 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM. Locally, there may be hail. The KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) warns of hailstones of 2 centimeters. Also, a lot of rain can fall in a short time: up to 30 millimeters of precipitation in an hour. A normal shower produces about 1 to 3 millimeters of precipitation.
It can lead to very turbulent weather in combination with severe gusts of wind, the KNMI warns. And that is extra treacherous because the rest of the day there is nothing to notice about bad weather conditions.
The sun shines in almost the entire country. In the north, it will be around 28 degrees Celsius, but in the center of the country, it can be over 30 degrees Celsius. In Limburg, a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius is even expected. In Maastricht, the first local tropical day of the year was already measured on Thursday.
Incidentally, today’s weather pattern seems to repeat itself on Saturday. Then too, the KNMI expects a mainly sunny day. But during the day, local showers with thunderstorms, hail, and a lot of rain can occur. The temperature fluctuates on Saturday between 23 degrees Celsius (by the sea) and 32 degrees Celsius (inland).
