Very unlikely, but true: Canadian wins the lottery four times

A Canadian has won a jackpot four times. In less than a year, he won the lottery three times, and more than ten years ago as well. The odds of that happening are minuscule, but David Serkin managed it.

Serkin won $500,000 (over €319,000) on August 20. In November, he won $1 million, and in May, he also had the winning ticket with a prize of $1 million, The Guardian writes. He bought the last ticket in May “on a whim” at a gas station.

The odds of this happening to you are extremely small. For the first draw alone, Serkin had a 1 in approximately 33.3 million chance of winning. Earlier in his life, he also won a jackpot worth $250,000.

“I know the odds are astronomically small, and I don’t think it will happen again,” Serkin wrote in a statement from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). “But I still enjoy buying tickets.”

The Canadian owes his success in part to consistently playing the lottery. Serkin has been playing since 1982. “I have survived cancer and am retired, so I am just grateful for everything.” Serkin is going on vacation with his wife with the prize money.
