City rounds Reijnders first transfer from Lyon-Uitblinker Cherki

Manchester City has signed Rayan Cherki on Tuesday. The French midfielder is expected to be a competitor of Tijjani Reijnders, although the transfer of the Dutchman to England has still not been finalized.

The 21-year-old Cherki was the key player for Olympique Lyonnais last season. The two-time French international scored twelve goals and provided no fewer than twenty assists.

That caught the eye of coach Josep Guardiola, who is now bringing the attacking midfielder to Manchester City. According to English media, the transfer involves around 40 million euros. Cherki is signing a five-year contract.

The transfer will not go unnoticed by Reijnders either. The 26-year-old Dutchman is about to complete his transfer from AC Milan to Manchester City. Once that happens, attacking midfielders Cherki and Reijnders will be each other’s competitors.

Manchester City had a disappointing season. Trainer Guardiola’s team was eliminated in the intermediate round of the Champions League and finished third in the Premier League. City already strengthened on Monday with left back Rayan Aït-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
