GP Nederland next year earlier, Madrid replaces Imola on F1 calendar

The Dutch Grand Prix will be held on August 23 next year. That is more than a week earlier than this season. The Madrid Grand Prix replaces the race in Imola, Italy, according to the Formula 1 calendar published on Tuesday.

This is tentatively the last time the race in Zandvoort is on the program. Last year it was announced that Formula 1 would disappear from the Netherlands after 2026. In 2021, the Netherlands had just returned to the calendar, which will again include 24 races next year.

The Formula 1 season will start next year – just like this season – in Australia. The race in Melbourne will be held on March 8. The season traditionally concludes with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is scheduled for December 6.

The Madrid Grand Prix is the only newcomer. The semi-street circuit in the Spanish capital replaces the race in Imola, Italy, which is temporarily disappearing from the calendar. The race in Madrid is on September 13, the last Grand Prix on European soil.

Furthermore, it is noticeable that the Canadian Grand Prix has been brought forward. This year it is still in the middle of the European season. Next year, the race in Montreal will be held directly after the Miami Grand Prix, after which the F1 circus will stay in Europe for three months.

‘Arrival of Madrid underlines our new course’

Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali calls 2026 “a season full of spectacle”. “We enthusiastically welcome Madrid as a new host city and look forward to the arrival of major brands such as Audi, Cadillac and Ford. Fans can prepare for a year with 24 iconic locations and intense racing.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is also looking forward to an “exciting new era”. The technical regulations will be significantly revised in 2026. “With an improved geographical layout and sustainable fuels, we are moving towards a future in which innovation and efficiency come together. The arrival of Madrid and new manufacturers underlines our new course.”

This weekend, the Canadian Grand Prix is on the program for the Formula 1 drivers. The race in Montreal starts on Sunday at 8:00 PM (Dutch time).
