The Day of the Jackal writer Frederick Forsyth (86) died

The British writer Frederick Forsyth passed away on Monday at the age of 86. One of his most famous books was The Day of the Jackal. Forsyth died after a short illness in the presence of his family.

His agent announced the death in a statement: “We mourn the passing of one of the world’s greatest thriller writers.”

Forsyth made a name for himself in 1971 with The Day of the Jackal. It is a political thriller about an Englishman who is hired to assassinate the then French President Charles de Gaulle.

The book received several film adaptations. Last year, a series about the story was released starring Eddie Redmayne.

Forsyth has written more than 25 books. Besides The Day of the Jackal, he was known for The Odessa File and The Dogs of War.
