Tadej Pogacar won the opening stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné on Sunday. The world champion stayed ahead of Jonas Vingegaard and Mathieu van der Poel in a sprint.
In the finale of the hilly stage, Pogacar was part of a leading group that barely stayed ahead of the peloton. Van der Poel, Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, and Santiago Buitrago were also part of the leading group.
In the Dauphiné, Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard meet for the first time this year. Remco Evenepoel is also participating, making the entire top three of the Tour de France present.
The Dauphiné is one of the most important preparation races for the Tour, which starts on July 5. Another hilly stage is on the program for Monday in the French WorldTour race.
