De Nederlandse hockeysters zijn zaterdag uitstekend begonnen aan de voorbereiding op het EK. Oranje rekende in de Pro League-wedstrijd in Amstelveen overtuigend af met Australië: 8-1.
Bij rust stond het ‘slechts’ 2-0 voor Nederland, dankzij twee goals in de eerste drie minuten van de wedstrijd in het Wagener Stadion. Vlak na de pauze vond Australië zelfs nog de aansluiting met de thuisploeg, maar daarna gooide Oranje de schroom van zich af. Na het derde kwart stond het 4-1.
Yibbi Jansen was de uitblinker aan Nederlandse zijde met een hattrick. Ze maakte twee van de drie treffers uit een strafcorner, haar specialisme. De overige doelpunten kwamen op naam van Pien Sanders, Marijn Veen, Joosje Burg, Frédérique Matla en Luna Fokke.
Voor Nederland staat de zomer in het teken van het EK, dat van 9 tot en met 17 augustus wordt gehouden in het Duitse Mönchengladbach. In de aanloop naar het Europese titeltoernooi speelt de ploeg van bondscoach Raoul Ehren acht duels in de Pro League, een prestigieuze landencompetitie.
Door de zege op Australië verstevigt Nederland de koppositie in de Pro League. De voorsprong op nummer twee België is vijf punten. Oranje is zowel in de Pro League als op het aankomende EK de titelverdediger.
