Tijjani Reijnders is likely to trade AC Milan for Manchester City. The clubs have reached an agreement on a transfer fee of up to 70 million euros, report De Telegraaf, The Athletic, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Reijnders had previously reached a personal agreement with City. The Dutch international still has to undergo a medical examination. The midfielder is currently preparing with the Dutch national team for the World Cup qualifying matches against Finland and Malta.
“I haven’t received a call yet,” Reijnders said to the NOS on Wednesday before the Dutch national team’s training. “The clubs are still in talks. I haven’t been very involved myself. I’m just waiting as well.”
Reijnders acknowledges that he is interested in a move to the top club from the Premier League. “That’s right. It’s a great competition. It’s what you dream of as a little boy.”
A five-year contract is reportedly ready for Reijnders at City, who finished third in England last season. He is still under contract with Milan until mid-2030. The Italian club finished eighth in Serie A last season, missing out on European football.
Reijnders shines at struggling AC Milan
Reijnders, born in Zwolle, who was recently voted the best midfielder in Serie A, made his debut in professional football in August 2017 at PEC Zwolle. Shortly thereafter, AZ acquired him. He played six seasons in Alkmaar – with the exception of a half-year loan period at RKC.
Two years ago, Reijnders made the move from AZ to Milan for around 20 million. In Italy, the midfielder grew into a full-fledged Dutch international. He hardly missed a game for Milan. In 104 matches, he scored nineteen goals and provided five assists.
Reijnders has become a regular starter for the Dutch national team under coach Ronald Koeman. The midfielder made his debut for the Dutch national team in September 2023 against Greece. He has played for the national team 22 times so far.
