The Flemish writer Griet Op de Beeck will present Zomergasten this year. The first episode of the VPRO program will be broadcast in the last week of July, the broadcaster announced on Tuesday.
“I consider it an insane honor to be able to present a program with such a track record,” says 51-year-old Op de Beeck in a statement. “I believe it has never been more important than now: to take the time, to go into depth, to seek nuance, to unravel complexities, to allow surprise, to stimulate the social conversation – even more than the debate – to broaden our world and create closeness.”
With more than a million books sold, Op de Beeck is one of the best-selling Dutch-language writers. Her work has been translated into thirteen languages. Her books Many Heavens Above the Seventh and Come Here That I Kiss You were filmed.
Zomergasten is a three-hour live interview program in which guests from various fields can compile their ultimate television evening. They motivate their choices in conversation with the presenter.
