Yves Berendse and Sevdaliza won prizes at Buma Awards

The song Terug In De Tijd by Yves Berendse won the Buma Award Nationaal on Monday. The record was the most played and best-selling song in the Netherlands in 2024. Internationally, that was Alibi by Sevdaliza, Pabllo Vittar and Yseult.

Terug In De Tijd was written by Berendse, Robert Vredeveld and Jeroen Russchen. The song reached almost 80 million streams. Second place in the national list went to Sugardaddy by Roxy Dekker. The top three was completed by Nothing to Lose by Douwe Bob.

Alibi by the Iranian-Dutch singer Sevdaliza was streamed over 500 million times worldwide. The song in collaboration with Pabllo Vittar and Yseult went viral on TikTok last year. In the international top three are Spider by GIMS & DYSTINCT and Luther by Kendrick Lamar and SZA.

In addition to the audience awards, jury prizes were also awarded. Martin Garrix received the Golden Harp, the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Jacqueline Govaert and the Lennaert Nijgh Prize was awarded to Boudewijn de Groot.

The awards for composers, lyricists and music publishers were presented in the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.

Tribute for Suzan & Freek at Buma Awards ceremony

During the presentation of the awards, a brief moment was taken to acknowledge the news about Freek Rikkerink of the duo Suzan & Freek, who is terminally ill. Last week it was announced that Freek has metastatic lung cancer and will not recover.

Yuki Kempees, who presented the awards ceremony, took the floor after an opening performance by Blanks. After a short speech, he asked for applause for Suzan & Freek, whereupon the hall gave a standing ovation.

In 2022, Suzan & Freek won a Buma Award Nationaal because the song Goud was the most played and best-selling single of 2021.
