Wessel Nijman reached the semi-finals of the European Darts Open on Sunday in a thriller. The Dutchman survived six match darts against Stephen Bunting and won 6-5.
Nijman took a 3-1 lead in Leverkusen, but then relinquished that lead. Bunting won four legs in a row and was close to victory with a 5-4 lead.
But ‘The Bullet’ didn’t have his sights set and missed no fewer than six darts to decide the match. Nijman leveled the score and decided the match with a fine finish of 109.
Nijman is having a strong tournament in Leverkusen. On the way to the quarter-finals, the 24-year-old from North Holland defeated Brendan Dolan, Gary Anderson and Peter Wright in succession.
In the last four of the European Tour tournament, Nijman will face Nathan Aspinall later in the evening. In the other semi-final, Damon Heta and Jonny Clayton will face each other.
