Former cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten in expectation of the first child

Annemiek van Vleuten is expecting her first child, she announced on Instagram on Sunday. The 42-year-old multiple world champion ended her cycling career in 2023.

“Our last vacation with just the two of us, because in September there will be three of us,” Van Vleuten writes with a photo of her and her Spanish boyfriend Oscar Abad Suarez. The two have been in a relationship since 2022.

Van Vleuten is one of the most successful Dutch cyclists ever. At the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, she won gold in the time trial and silver in the road race. She became world champion twice (2017 and 2018) in the time trial and twice world champion (2019 and 2022) in the road race.

In addition, she won all three major tours (four times the Giro, once the Tour and three times the Vuelta).

After her career, Van Vleuten worked as an analyst for the NOS and this year she started working as a performance coach at the Belgian team Fenix-Deceuninck.
