In the Russian region of Bryansk, at least seven people died and dozens were injured on Sunday when a bridge collapsed. Several heavy trucks fell onto a train that was passing by at that moment.
It is not clear how the bridge could collapse. The debris ended up on the tracks, causing the train to derail. Among the dead is the train driver, reports the governor of Bryansk. 44 injured people have been hospitalized.
Russia accuses Ukraine of sabotaging the railway in Bryansk and blowing up the bridge. The Russian province borders Ukraine. Russia provides no evidence for the accusation. Ukraine has not yet responded to the incident.
Since the beginning of the war more than three years ago, the Bryansk region has regularly been targeted by shelling, drone attacks and secret operations from Ukraine.
Later in the day, a bridge also collapsed in the border region of Kursk. That happened while a freight train was passing over it. According to the governor of that region, one of the machinists was injured when part of the train fell on the road under the bridge.
Ukraine often targets bridges in the fight against Russia. For example, the Crimean Bridge, which connects the Crimean peninsula with mainland Russia, has been targeted several times.
