PSG in Illuster Rijtje: Ninth European and First French Treble winner

Paris Saint-Germain has won the Champions League this season, adding to their Ligue 1 title and French Cup victory. This places PSG in a select group of European treble winners.

Luis Enrique’s team secured the national championship at the beginning of April against Angers. Last Saturday, they won the French Cup final against Stade Reims with 3-0.

Saturday evening, PSG realized their long-cherished Champions League dream. The final against Internazionale in Munich resulted not only in a resounding 5-0 victory, but also the treble.

With the third major prize of the season, PSG joins an illustrious European company. In Europe, it has now happened eleven times that a European club becomes champion, wins the cup and the European Cup I/Champions League.

FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both achieved it twice. Barça did it in the seasons 2008/2009 and 2014/2015, Bayern in 2012/2013 and 2019/2020.

Ajax (1971/1972) and PSV (1987/1988) also have a treble to their name, as do Celtic, Manchester United, Internazionale and Manchester City. PSG is now the first French club to achieve this.
