Paul van Loon wins Price of the Children's Jury for Efteling-fairy tale Danse Macabre

Paul van Loon has won the Prize of the Dutch Children’s Jury for the eleventh time. This was reported by book umbrella CPNB. The writer was honored for his book Danse Macabre, which focuses on the story behind the popular new Efteling attraction.

Van Loon, known for children’s books such as Dolfje Weerwolfje and De Griezelbus, last won the prize in 2009.

The other two nominated books were Meneer Bart by Joost Schijns and Kermiskind by Jacques Vriens. Meneer Bart is about a teacher who died in the MH17 disaster. In Kermiskind, Vriens gives an insight into the old fairground life.

In the category of seven to nine years, the Prize of the Dutch Children’s Jury went to Youtubers Rutger Vink and Thomas van Grinsven for the book De Avonturen van Rutger, Thomas en Paco: De Safari. It is the fourth time in a row that the duo has received the award.

The award ceremony took place in Theater CulturA & Zo in Nootdorp. The nominated books were chosen by children in the Netherlands, who were able to vote in the past two weeks. The Prize of the Dutch Children’s Jury has existed since 1988 and is the most important Dutch public prize for children’s books.
